Well, Wildcard weekend is in the books and it was one of tragedy, triumphs, and just flat out embarrassment. How long have I been telling all of you that the G-men would have a hard time beating the Texas Longhorns? Believe me now. Well, it would be hard not to after that god-awful performance. And you have to feel for Cinci and QB Carson Palmer going down. Nonetheless, the season must go on and the four top seeds await next week's divisional challenge and I await my next check-up at the doctor. Those and many others are the subjects of my NFL Sunday Musings Wildcard Weekend Edition.
GIANTS- Can someone tell me why the G-men were even in the playoffs? Oh that's right... they beat the Raiders in the last day of the regular season. Had they lost that game the Falcons or Cowboys would have been in and wouldn't have laid a bigger egg than the Giants did. I feel for all my New York brethren who live and die by the G-Men sword, now all of you know what it feels like to be a Lions fan.
PANTHERS-This team is looking more and more like the one that came within minutes of winning the Superbowl two years ago. With a defense that will give you nightmares (Giants fans and Eli manning will have them the rest of their lives) and an offense led by Steve Smith that is truly deadly. The Panthers went into the postseason a little quieter than many expected, but made all the noise they needed to in turning the Giants into 'Mincemeat'. What turned the Panthers mojo around? Maybe it was Mike Minter's appearance on the Sports Edge this past week.......
SKINS- What a performance by the Redskin D and head coach Joe Gibbs making his first playoff appearance since the first Bush presidency. The Skins just overwhelmed the Buccs and green QB Chris Simms. I don't think the Skins can go to Seattle and beat them next week, but I do believe that Washington is well on their way back to dominance. Just take care of signing Lavar Arrington.like now!!!!!
CINCI-Those replays showing QB Carson Palmer writhing in pain on the ground were truly hard to watch and for a while on Sunday it seemed as if the Bengals would not go down without a fight. In the end though it is hard for a team that got there in a big part because of what Palmer did for the team this year, didn't have enough once their leader was knocked out of the game. It is a terrible way to lose your first playoff game in 15 years, but one thing must be said. The Bengals and head coach Marvin Lewis have something truly special brewing in Cinci and we will be seeing a lot more of them in Januarys and for that matter, Februarys's's to come. Here to Carson Palmer having a speedy recovery and getting back to 100% by the start of next season!.
PATS Here we go again!!!! The Pats look like the team to beat once again in the NFL. After a dismantling of upstart Jacksonville the Pats get a late New Year's present via the Steelers win over Cinci as the Pats go to Denver instead of Indy for the divisional round. Or is that a present at all?? We will find out in the Mile High City next weekend, but if the Pats play the way they did this past weekend I don't know if there is any team in the NFL that can beat them
VINCE YOUNG- Vin-sanity announces that he is turning pro and Lions fans around the land rejoice as the news leaks that GM Matt Millen has expressed interest in trading up to the no 2 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft and is willing to give the New Orleans Saints 8 draft picks, a Wayne Fontes bubblehead doll, and 4 Ford F-150's.
